We will present to the public the H2020 Science with and for Society (SwafS) project Responsible Research in Biosciences (ResBios), coordinated by the University of Rome Tor Vergata. The Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM, CSIC), recently awarded with the Severo Ochoa accreditation, is one of the 12 partners of the project. The project main aim is to put Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) into practice in 4 European Institutions in the field of Biosciences, embedding different Grounding Actions (GAs) related with the different aspects of RRI: Education, Gender, Open Access, Public Engagement and Ethics.
Thanks to the participation on this project, the ICM is improving and gaining experience and capacity in mainly three different aspects of RRI: Scientific Education, Gender and Citizen Engagement. The ICM-CSIC is pursuing the institutional change through the adoption of RRI and its procedures. Also, the ICM is being able to participate in a community of mutual learning with experts on the different aspects of RRI acting as mentors.
The project draws on the expertise of 12 partners from 11 countries to bring sustainable institutional changes into biosciences research. Currently, the project is in the middle of its life term.
The main objectives of ICM GAs under the ResBios project are: to create a network of marine schools, to improve their participatory processes in the neighborhoods of Barcelona and to improve ICM’s commitment in gender equality (working mainly on three different aspects: visibility, networking and mentoring). In this last aspect, the ICM is also participating in another H2020 SwafS project: Leading Towards Sustainable Gender Equality Plans. LetsGEPs project is supporting the design and implementation of Gender Equality Plans and Gender Budgeting in six different institutions, including the ICM.
