NEWSERA is a EU H2020 funded project that aims to analyse and evaluate the complex and multidirectional science communication strategies, including digital and non-digital ones, addressed to quadruple helix stakeholders (citizens, academia, policy makers – including government departments at local, regional, national and EU-level, business & industry) in citizen science projects across Europe as the new paradigm for science communication.
NEWSERA will use a bottom-up approach to co-design strategies for selected currently ongoing H2020 Citizen Science projects (16 in Spain, 10 in Italy (10) and 12 in Portugal), in order to improve their science communication practices and their impact towards each quadruple helix stakeholder group.
After conducting a EU and UK level survey on the state of science communication on citizen science projects, and performing structured individual interviews, 38 projects were selected as pilots. These have already participated in the first round of the planned #CitSciCom Labs addressed to quadruple-helix stakeholders as well as to data and science journalists. This will allow not only to improve the communication effectiveness and social perception of science whilst increasing the overall impact of the citizen science projects involved, but also to advance in the state-of-the-art of science communication. Data journalism principles will be for the first time interlinked and #NEWSERA will further provide policy guidelines in the form of blueprints to be shared publicly, to increase trust in science communication.
The poster shows the main take-away ideas for each of the targeted quadruple-helix stakeholders of the citizen science projects.
